Whether a document needs notarisation depends on its type, purpose and the receiving organisation’s requirements. Start with the transaction and the named recipient. At Abdul Rahman Alaamri Advocates, Legal Consultants & Private Notary, we review the document and signing capacity, then explain the appropriate next step.
What does the notarial step cover?
Notarial attestation certifies the parties’ signatures on the instrument. Before the procedure, the parties’ identity, capacity, eligibility and consent to the document are reviewed in accordance with the transaction’s requirements.
Explain the outcome you need: authorising someone, signing a contract or recording a declaration. These details help identify the service and any next step required by the receiving organisation.
Begin with the recipient’s instructions
Obtain the recipient’s instructions covering the document name, content, language, accepted format and any requirements about its issuer or subsequent procedures. If the recipient is a bank, registry, public authority or contractual counterparty, identify it specifically rather than saying only for use in the UAE.
Keep written instructions where possible and identify the actual document and purpose. Confirm the required language, accepted format and any additional step before relying on the instrument for your transaction.
Signing through a representative or for a company
Explain who will sign and whom they represent. Have the record supporting their authority ready, such as a power of attorney, company document or relevant decision. The representation is reviewed alongside the instrument and recipient’s instructions to identify what is needed before signing.
Foreign supporting documents or translation
If a supporting document was issued by a foreign authority, identify its issuer, language and purpose, together with any translation or attestation already completed. Review the recipient’s instructions before requesting another step so the document and remaining requirements are clear.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation is a separate procedure concerning the authenticity of signatures and seals on documents. The need for it and for translation is reviewed against the document and recipient. See the Ministry’s document attestation service.
What should your initial enquiry include?
- The document type and outcome you need.
- The named receiving organisation and its instructions, if available.
- The signatory’s capacity and whether they represent a person or company.
- The language and issuer of supporting documents, and steps already completed.
Your name and number are enough to start the contact form; these details can be discussed during follow-up. For the document checklist, see Documents to Prepare.
How is the next step confirmed?
You can begin by phone, WhatsApp or the contact form. After reviewing the purpose and supporting information, we explain signing requirements, charges and the agreed work before arranging the procedure or appointment.
Office address: Office 306, 3rd Floor, ACICO Business Park, Al Khabaisi, Deira, Dubai. Arrange the documents and appointment before visiting, and mention any deadline connected with your transaction.
Questions to help you decide
Does signature attestation satisfy the recipient’s requirements?
Acceptance is assessed against the recipient’s requirements and document purpose. A particular language, format or additional attestation may be requested, so those instructions form part of preparing the enquiry.
Should I request another attestation if my document is already attested?
Identify the attestation already completed and what the recipient now requests. Reviewing both helps establish the next required step instead of repeating a procedure without knowing whether it is needed.
